The Era reports are short, condensed histories of the BattleTech timeline. this Era report condenses and explains/expounds on the events scattered among the novels, websites, etc. a must read to understand what the heck is going on and when during the dark-age era.
I am just getting back into the game after a decade off. The book does a great job laying out the era changes, and listing some of the new factions. Just a word of warning, it's more of a companion read with Field Manuel 3145, and both are needed for the full picture
I am getting back into Battletech after ~10 years. I really liked this book and found the information quite nice. Some of my favorite clans are no more :(, but I still find a lot to like in Battletech.
An interesting addition the the Battletech Universe, Era Report 3145 introduces the universe set down by Wizkids and their Mechwarrior Dark Age/Age of Destruction Miniatures games.The book covers all of the novels briefly along with advancing the plot forward from 3140 (or so) where it left off with WizKids and moves it to 3145.A recommended Read!

A great overview of the who, what, and why of the 3145 Era. Good for those wanting to make the transition from the clix to tabletop.
The era report covers the tail end of the Dark Ages era. For several years , Wizkids had a very popular miniatures spin-off from Classic Battletech called Mechwarrior - Dark Ages later to become Mechwarrior -Age of Destruction (MW-AOD). During this time, we saw a tremendous amount of literature, storyline events and new and interesting personalities and factions added to the Battletech Universe. After several successful years, the company that was Wizkids Games was shuffled around between owners and eventually closed - effectively ending the MW-AOD game. This book appears to be someone's attempt to wipe the board clean of anything to do with that era. Here are some of the things I really do not like about this book:1. Meaningless elimination of Clan Nova Cat - in about three pages, one of the most popular factions in MW-AOD and Battletech is scratched from the game. This, to me, is the equivalent of scratching a super -popular mech (like the Atlas or Masakari) from the game; - without apologies; if you play in this era you can't use it ever again even though it was very popular. It strikes me that someone at Catalyst really didn't like Clan Nova Cat.2. Major personalities are eliminated. Individuals like Jacob Banson, Katana Tormark, Anastasia Kerensky, Jonah Levin and a few others are mentioned and then most of them are packed off to oblivion. So many others are simply ignored.3. No resolution to the "Dark Age" major subplot - HPG network is still down and will probably never be restored.4. Fortress Republic unchanged - no new information related to blockade preventing all communication and movement inside the "walls" of the remaining elements of the Republic of the Sphere.5. Further elimination of warships as an element of the game. I think at this point, somebody at Catalyst decided to put a nail in the coffin of large-scale warships in the game.If you liked MW-AOD don't buy this book- you'll only be disappointed. If you didn't play MW-AOD then you probably won't be interested in this book.
A bit small as compared to the Field Manual: 3145, but it does give a nice perspective of life outside the fortress
