Great guide to help me identify the wildflowers around our second home in these mountains. This book shows just the flowers I can expect to see without my having to search through flowers from other areas.
This wildflower guide is a must for hikers in NM that have an interest in identifying wildflowers. Their uses by native Americans and the photos are interesting and useful too.
Book is a grand collection, with pictures, of wildflowers growing from 4,000' above sea level to 11,000' in the central area of NM. It is the best reference book of its kind.
great and easy to identify flowers
This is a great basic guide for this area. Photos are great, informative descriptions. I like that they included medicinal/food uses.
A wonderful reference book. Clear pictures and descriptions. Also really like the binding. Lays flat and easy to take in the field. A must have book.
Havent used it yet. Kind of expensive for what you actually get. Diagram for changing blades is not very clear, but can be easily figured out. Blades are extreamly sharp and should work well for skining big game.
This new guidebook is written specifically for the mountains nearest Albuquerque, but will serve you well throughout the Sangre de Cristo and other NM high country above 6,000 ft., except for the Alpine zones -- the Sandias, highest of the ranges near ABQ, top out at around 10,700 ft. ASL. The authors are a professional botanist (Dr. Littlefield) and a long-time Albuquerque wildflower enthusiast (Burns). Their guidebook is clearly a labor of love. Each flower gets a full page writeup, with 2/3 of the page given to 3-5 sharp, clear color photos, and the remainder to the text description. There's an extensive preview of the book at the publisher's website -- see comments for the link.The binding is sturdy-looking plastic, and the guide itself is spiral-bound, so pages lie reasonably flat in use.
