Used in small group book study at church. Every parishioner evaluated the book very high. Williams writes in so many levels at once that both the new and the long term Christian were challenged and involved.
In a series of short reflections, Rowan Williams calls us to the slow, deep simplicity of living into discipleship. We are always learning the art of resting, listening, paying attention to Jesus. The long way of faith is rooted in expectation that God is leading us, is sustaining us, and is guiding us in the little ways. While this book could easily be read in an afternoon, it might be to pause for a few days over each reflection to pray, listen, and wait upon the Lord.
This is one of the best books I have ever read on what it means to be a disciple. It is so concise and yet know Freeze is wasted. What a powerful work on the call every believer to become a disciple. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.
Every Christian could benefit from this book. It is not one to read through in one sitting, but rather one chapter at a time. Contemplating and digesting. And then when finished, you may want to read it again.
I found this book very insightful, and it became clear to me that the simple presentations was made on the basis of deep understanding of theology and the human condition.
