Firstly, this book would benefit tremendously from a professional editor. Overlooking the continual grammatical errors, it's a disturbing story of a young woman who seemingly never learned to love or value herself and lacks self esteem. It's very difficult to understand how she made the initial transition to prostitution with so little resistance, but one can see clearly how this dark path becomes darker and more tragic with physical abuse, substance abuse, and what appears to be the author's disconnect from her emotions, choices, and behavior. I wondered over and over why Melissa would choose this lifestyle over just going home and living with her parents. This book leaves the reader with more questions than answers, and left me with an energy that I felt I needed to wash off in the shower, much like the writer does after her prostitution sessions. For that reason, I will not be buying any more books in the series, but I applaud Segovia-Munoz for fighting her way out of an ugly, dark, and dangerous place in her life. I also applaud her sobriety.
I was disapointed in this book. Although it's interesting, the writing is very elementary and there were grammatical errors (commas everywhere!). This distracted me. I also don't like that the author cuts off the book and you have the buy the next one to see what happens. It's not that long to begin with. She also doesn't elaborate much, if it all on how she feels when the consequences of her actions happen. She learns nothing. She writes as if she is doing a book report. If being roommates with someone doesn't work out, why do you repeat the action with multiple others doing the same thing when you know they "aren't good choices"? Annoying. I will not be purchasing the next book.
Susan has written an extraordinarily honest account of how she fell prey to addiction. The stories of her life as a provider are all the more daunting for the matter-of-factness with which she describes that work. This is a very inspiring book for anyone who believes they are beyond help or anyone who questions whether the "clean" path is even a possibility for them. I love stories of redemption and of courageous people who successfully combat their demons, against all odds. Sweet Melissa is such a book. Thanks Susan!
Not very well written. Devoid of any real emotion. Just doesn’t captivate the reader - feels more like a list of things she did each day.
Worth the money. Good read for those interested in the lifestyle of addicts and their behavior when under the influence.
I finished this amazing book in 2 sittings. Wow ! I can't wait to read the rest of her story. Off to book 2 !
It was great and it takes a lot to share things that you may not be proud of now.
I just got this book and Susan's 2ed book in the mail yersterday, and i already read her 1st in one day! I could not put it down!! It brought me back to my days in active addiction. Even though our stories are different in some ways, but one thing is the same & thats how heroin, crack and cocaine controlled our life. I am about to read the 2ed book in her series and i can not wait to get started
