Third of the ABCD set of Guided Science Readers and appropriate for beginning readers. The C readers are very simple ideas about nature/animals/people but the words aren't so simple, so instead of a lot of only two or three letter words, the child is taught to read words up to eleven letters long! (caterpillar) in multiple sentence format and in repetition style (which is fine so not to intimidate a new reader who is reading more than simple words and expanding from set B.) Pictures above words are clear photos and appropriate and match the words. Would recommend for a reader who knows the alphabet and a few shorter Kindergarten sight words and most sounds that most letters make (phonics). The C readers are eight pages long and good for children's small hands (5 and 1/2" by 5 and 1/2" or 14cm by 14cm), but again not to intimidate and remain approachable and enjoyable while encouraging. Covers are card stock and pages are glossy and are about as thick as typing paper and the edges are sewn, nice touch. These will last through several readings and can be stored in the matching sturdy cardboard box. Animal reward stickers and an activity book are included which further encourage learning and very early reading comprehension skills! Bought all four of the ABCD reader sets since they expand from the set before. Recommend for any child who is learning how to read!
I somehow landed on the correct level for my kid, but I wish the publisher would make it less of a guessing game. Since they were correct for him they were excellent subject matter. Distinct lettering with color photos. Short, but with the discussion suggestions in the kit we made each book last a little longer before bedtime. .
Love these books for teaching Guided Reading at C/D level. The photos are beautiful and kids are motivated to read them. They give students a reason to read, as compared to many books written at this beginning level range. I teach Guided Reading every school day, plus "classes" with my first grade granddaughter.
These sets of books are perfect for my 7 year old who struggles with reading. Once they have a book memorized I continue to have them read it with pointing to each word when saying it. The level A, B and C in the other sets (first little readers) is actually what im starting with and made these cool science ones the GOAL books for by the end of the summer. The first little readers come with 25 books so they are a better deal. Yes these books are easy and repetitive. But the reason I love them is because once you make your kid point to each word as they say it they catch on to the sight words rather quick. I also have started my 4 year old with these. They are very small and each only have a few pages. I do not recommend these if your child is over age 5 or are a good reader. But for starting out at age 3 or 4 or for the struggling reader these are PERFECT! And build their confidence and in turn really help them to ENJOY reading!
Great books for new readers. The pages are repetitive so they start to pick up words quickly.
