I felt Job was an exhausting book to get through. While my study Bible was helpful, too many questions remained. So, I purchased this book based on user reviews. This book too is exhausting and not a quick read, and if you are not willing to take the time to meditate on its pearls of wisdom, this will not be the book for you. Much of the book is quoting sections of Job itself and then providing insight into the verses. However, I found myself writing many of the pearls into my journal. One of the most profound head-smackers I encountered was Job's wife. At first blush, we tend to see her comments to Job as horribly uncaring and callous. What this author offered is that Job's wife suffered the same loss of all of her children and wealth as Job, sans the physical ails. I am embarrassed to admit that her suffering never occurred to me. Unfortunately, and unlike Job, she also lost her faith, and that was the problem. It also taught me how to better comfort those in need and that age old question of why bad things happen to good people. I highly recommend this book if you don't give yourself a time limit to finish it. I found that one to two chapters every couple of days was about all I could handle, but I am very happy with the purchase, and I have donated it to my Church's library.

The book of Job is the foundation for all theology and Ray Stedman correctly and vividly portrays this ancient classic book of the Bible. He comprehensively catches every drop of wisdom that Job has to offer and presents it to us moderns in the language and examples that we are familiar with for our ease of understanding.I am particularly excited to see that he captures the key wisdom that "suffering is an opportunity to praise God at an even higher level" in spite of the circumstances. Additionally, he makes us aware that we are in a spiritual battlefield for God against Satanic forces whereby good soldiers must be put at risk to defend God's character and all that is holy and true. Our dignity to freely choose between God and Satan establishes our value as treasure in God's spiritual kingdom and thus worthy of His Son's ultimate sacrifice on the cross. May we all learn to let God alone justify us before powers & principalities and not resort to the self-justification that Job was mired in!

Really helped me as I went through the book of Job. After falling and breaking a bone-this arm had already had three previous surgeries on it-I was disheartened and in emotional/spiritual pain as well as intense physical pain. It was in prayer as I was crying out to God that I heard him call me to the book of Job. I went onto Amazon and found this resource that stood out among all others.I will finish up the book of Job today along with this book as I used it chapter by chapter with Job. The best resource I could have gotten and so grateful for discovering this and God leading me to Job. We all have our trials and hardhsips but no one understands them more that God and Job. Puts everything into perspective. Thanks be to God!.

A friend recommended this book to me and it was very eye-opening about the book of Job and the struggles he faced. Job lost more than I could ever imagine and learned that his trials allowed him to know God and honor Him in new ways - a great perspective for any of us when we go through hard trials.

I love reading anything written by Ray Stedman, and his study of the book of Job is brilliant. I'm glad his teachings live on because perhaps nobody did a better job explaining the Bible. I also recommend listening to his sermon podcasts if you have the opportunity. He had a wonderful voice and sense of humor.

I have never read a more powerful, biblical view of physical suffering than what Ray Stedman has laid out in this little book. The entire basis for victory in suffering is taken from the book of Job where we learn exactly what the Lord has in mindfor the Christian in going through physical suffering. If we allow Christ to receive all praise and glory while enduring physical suffering we begin to understand just a bit of Christ suffering on the cross as our substitute. Not all Christians as yet have experienced intense suffering, but when it comes we need to understand it is an opportunity for praising the Lord only given us on earth, reserved only for the Living.Submitted by,Roger Hixon(Retired Trans World Radio Missionary).

This book is excellent. Ray Stedman explains the Book of Job in a very clear, insightful manner, answering all the tough questions. I read this while going through a very difficult time and found it to be not only helpful, but comforting. It also gives guidance on how to act and support someone going through a difficult time. A+ and 5 stars!

Where has this book been all my life? I was lead to it while completing a study by Jane Johnson entitled "Treasures of Darkness." Stedman offers rich biblical perspective on suffering and his commentary is anointed. I hi lighted and underlined my copy while feverishly writing notes in my journal. I know this will be a book I refer back to often to remind myself of the lessons learned through the person of Job. God is good and he is waiting to reveal His goodness through the storms of life if we look to Him.
